Siemens Communications Group has been awarded a contract to
set up a 3G/W-CDMA network for Telkomsel, one of the country's major
mobile communications network operators.
Siemens Communications Indonesia said Thursday that the 3-year
framework agreement between Siemens and Telkomsel foresaw the supply of
Siemens 3G Radio Access Network (RAN) equipment, including PDH and SDH
Microwave Systems, for a large part of Telkomsel's geographically vast
network area.
"Further to the supply of equipment, the agreement also covers the
respective turnkey implementation services, as well as the technical
services of the network operation support segment to be delivered by
Siemens," said Dieter Klein, the director of Siemens Communications
Indonesia.
The contract would allow Siemens to support Telkomsel in strengthening
its leadership in the Indonesian mobile telecommunications market
through further expanding Telkomsel's newly-launched 3G services
throughout the country.
The contract expands Siemens existing footprint in Indonesia, and in
Telkomsel, with some of the fast-growing and developing areas of
eastern Indonesia parts now being able to enjoy telecommunications
services through Siemens' 3-G radio network technology.
Siemens is continuing the historically strategic relationship with
Telkomsel under which the operator's 2G network developed over the last
more than 12 years, the company said.
The contract also strengthens Siemens competence in 3G services
worldwide and will maintain Siemens' comfortable foothold in the Asia
Pacific mobile telecommunications market over the long run.
"We at Siemens are very proud to be again selected as a partner by
Telkomsel, allowing us to provide the new 3G technology and services
for this country. Our end-to-end solutions will allow Telkomsel to meet
the high demand in probably one of the most challenging
telecommunications markets in the world, namely, Indonesia" said Klein.
As the pioneer in the global 3G/W-CDMA market, the Siemens/NEC alliance
has achieved outstanding success. Over 90 percent of the world's 3G
subscribers are communicating over 3G network technology from
Siemens/NEC. An April 2005 report from the independent MM Research
Institute in Tokyo positioned NEC/Siemens as the number one in the
3G/W-CDMA market for commercially installed radio base stations.
