Japanese carmakers Astra Daihatsu Motor and Toyota-Astra
Motor announced Thursday they would launch the Daihatsu Terios and
Toyota Rush compact sports utility vehicles (SUVs) sometime in
mid-December.
In 2003 the two companies unveiled the Daihatsu Xenia and Toyota Avanza
multipurpose vehicles (MPVs), which enjoyed robust sales of more than
200,000 units in 2006.
The new collaborative models are aimed at meeting the needs of the
compact SUV market and replacing the current Daihatsu Taruna model.
"Both Daihatsu and Xenia will provide several variants to provide more
choices to meet customers' lifestyles," the companies said in a
statement.
Assembled at PT ADM's plant in Sunter, North Jakarta, the new models
will be marketed through Daihatsu's and Toyota's sales networks.
"The Daihatsu Terios will be sold in a price range between Rp 120
million and Rp 140 million," a spokeswoman for PT ADM, Thely
Wahyuningrum, told
"The Daihatsu Terios will be launched Dec. 14," she added.
A company spokeswoman for PT TAM, Hana Maharani, said the Toyota Rush
-- to be launched Dec. 13 -- would be priced somewhere between the
Toyota Avanza and Toyota Innova.
Avanza is tagged between Rp 114 million and Rp 133 million, while the
Innova sells for between Rp 160.3 million and Rp 282.8 million.
