An international exhibition on information and communications
technology (ICT) is to be held in May next year, featuring top global
market leaders.
Hidayat Tjokrodjojo, vice chairman of the Indonesian Infocom Society,
said Tuesday the main objective of the event was to promote awareness
among Indonesians and the international community about the country's
commitment to developing the ICT sector.
"Indonesia's ICT industry has experienced exhilarating growth over the
last couple of years, and there's still huge potential for the business
to develop. That's why we need a forum to facilitate all stakeholders
in building a competitive ICT industry in this digital convergence
era," he explained.
Scheduled for May 3-5, 2007, at the Jakarta Convention Center, the
exhibition will focus on information technology, mobile
telecommunications, broadband and internet services, integrated
solutions and business applications, wireless technologies, 3G, and
Next Generation Networks (NGN).
Indra Putra, chairman of event organizer PT ECMI, said the exhibition
would particularly focus on corporate-to-corporate commerce, with an
estimated 5,000-8,000 visitors per day from all business sectors,
including communications, finance and manufacturing.
It event would be supported by the Information and Communications
Ministry; the Industry Ministry; the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce;
and a number of ICT market leaders, including Alcatel-Lucent, Bakrie,
Cisco, Ericsson, Excelcomindo, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Indosat,
Microsoft, Nokia, Qualcomm, Siemens and Telkom.
It would also feature a conference on NGN and a summit titled "ICT
Indonesia: Bridging the Digital Divide".
