State oil and gas firm PT Pertamina raised the retail prices
of some oil-based fuels for industry and high-octane propellants Monday.
Fuels for industry were increased by between 0.5 percent and 4.9
percent as Pertamina adjusted the prices in line with the Mid Oil
Platts Singapore (MOPS) index.
Prices of fuel oil rose by 0.5 percent to Rp 4,886 (US$0.54), gasoline
by 1.9 percent to Rp 4,838 and kerosene by 4.9 percent to Rp 5,450,
Pertamina said.
It also upped prices for high-octane Pertamax by Rp 400 a liter to Rp
5,200 a liter on Jan. 1. Pertamax Plus and Biopertamax prices also
increased to Rp 5,350 and Rp 5,200 a liter from Rp 5,200 and Rp 4,750 a
liter, respectively.
Pertamina said the decision to increase the prices also took into
account the rupiah's decline in value against the greenback by 0.05
percent in December.
The company cut prices of other fuels -- high-speed diesel for
transportation and regular diesel -- which were set 1.6 percent lower
at Rp 5,209 and Rp 4,983, respectively.
Pertamina said fuel for industrial use this year would stand at between
19.5 million kiloliters (kl) and 25 million kl.
Forced to pay more expensive market prices for petroleum-based fuels,
many industries are replacing them with cheaper fuel products like coal
and gas and cutting back on other costs.
