Finish mobile phone company Nokia has unveiled several new
cell phones, including the latest Communicator cell phone, to tap the
growing need for more sophisticated products.
The devices, which were launched during the two-day Showcase Nokia 2007
event in Bangkok on Monday and Tuesday, include three "Eseries"
products -- the Nokia E90 Communicator, Nokia E65 and Nokia E61i.
These products are equipped with advanced technologies that support the
activities of businessmen and others who realize the importance of a
modern lifestyle, including Internet connectivity.
"We are making it easy for business professionals to get mobilized.
Building on the success of our first Nokia Eseries generation, we are
responding to the growing requirements of business customers with a new
generation of Nokia Eseries devices that will exceed their expectations
and deliver an uncompromised experience," Mathia Nalappan, enterprise
solutions vice president for Asia Pacific, said during the event, which
was attended by a number of journalists from Asia Pacific countries.
Nokia initially planned to unveil the products in Jakarta, but the
organizers changed the location following the floods that hit many
parts of the capital recently.
Indonesia, which is seen as one of the region's largest potential
markets given its huge population and low phone penetration rate, is
one of the main markets for Nokia's Communicator cell phone. In the
past, the launching of new Communicator models always attracted large
crowds.
"Indonesia is the largest market for Communicator in terms of sales
numbers in Asia Pacific, followed by India, and the third largest in
the world," Alex Lambeek, mobile phone sales and market operations vice
president for Asia Pacific, told The Jakarta Post.
The Nokia E90 Communicator features high speed download packet access
(HSDPA), integrated and reliable Mobile Office, built-in global
positioning system (GPS), dual cameras, and a large internal horizontal
display and large outward-facing display.
The HSDPA enables users to obtain data from the Internet at a speed
comparable to that which can be achieved in the office.
GPS, which is not available on previous Communicator products, allows
users to download maps of countries and big cities from Nokia's newly
launched website www.smart2go.com for free. The map will show the user
the destination he is heading to and help him find the best way to
reach it.
The new Communicator also displays websites at full-page spread so that
the user does not need to scroll left and right to view all of the
page's content. Thanks to the dual camera, the users can take photos of
objects from the front or back of the Communicator.
The new Communicator will be available in Indonesia in the second
quarter of the year, according to Nalappan.
Aside from the Eseries cell phone, Nokia also unveiled several new
devices to cater to the market need for products that combine phone
functions with entertainment and travel-guide functions, including the
Nokia 3110 Classic, Nokia 6110 Navigator and Nokia N77.
The Nokia 6110 is equipped with all the facilities available on other
Nokia cell phones. It also boasts a map function that helps travelers
find locations in many countries and big cities around the world.
The Nokia N77 is equipped with digital video broadcasting handheld
(DVB-H) technology, which allows users to watch live TV broadcasts on
their cell phones.
"TV is the biggest media in the world and we are mobilizing it with the
Nokia N77. The pocketable and affordable Nokia N77 further drives
broadcast mobile TV based on DVB-H technology towards the mainstream
market phase. The ability to watch live television on a mobile device
has never been so easy," said Jawahar Kanjilal, Nokia's Asia Pacific
director of multimedia experiences.
